UnitedHealthcare and AARP
Why does UnitedHealthcare offer plans with the AARP name?
UnitedHealthcare is one of the largest private health insurers, serving about one out of every five people eligible for Medicare*. AARP is one of the largest membership organizations for people 50 and over.
Both UnitedHealthcare and AARP believe that everyone with Medicare should have access to affordable, quality health care coverage. That’s why UnitedHealthcare is proud to offer a variety of Medicare plans with the AARP name.
What is the relationship between AARP and UnitedHealthcare?
UnitedHealthcare is the insurer; that is not AARP’s role. But AARP does evaluate the companies, as well as the products and services that carry the AARP name. UnitedHealthcare pays a fee to AARP for use of the AARP trademark, which AARP uses to fund advocacy efforts and various programs and services.
What does it mean to carry the AARP name? How does this relationship benefit me?
Here are a few examples of the benefits:
- Agents receive special training to better understand issues faced by people as they age. This is in addition to training about Medicare and the AARP-branded Medicare plans available to consumers.
- UnitedHealthcare and AARP are each engaged in unique projects aimed at working with the health care community to provide equal levels of care for everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, religion or income.
- UnitedHealthcare and AARP both know that health care information and health insurance can be very complex, which is why UnitedHealthcare is finding new ways to communicate with consumers in a more clear and understandable way.
